Rosemary McTaggart
Manager/Registrar

Rosemary has been the Registrar and Manager since Roucan Loch opened in 2005.  Rosemary is the first port of call for all Funeral Directors in Dumfries & Galloway and the Borders.  All cremation paperwork has to be thoroughly checked and entered into our system individually and once completed, Rosemary then authorises the cremation to take place. 

Brian Chisholm
Superintendant

Brian has been the Superintendant at Roucan Loch since its opening in 2005.  Prior to that, he had over 30 years experience in the travel industry and as a result he enjoys travelling and sailing as well as visiting antique fairs and spending time with his family and friends. 

Jim Hamilton
Superintendant

Jim owned the popular "Old Bank" restaurant in Dumfries for some 15 years.  Having an easy going manner, he was ideally suited to meeting the public at Roucan Loch, joining in the autumn of 2005.  Jim also had a career as a professional footballer with West Browm, Sunderland, Plymouth Argyle, Bristol Rovers and Carlisle United, then briefly with Queen of the South before going to Australia.  Jim now enjoys a relaxed pace of life at home with Suze and his children, Greg and Chloe.

Jill Templeton
Senior Memorial Consultant

Alan Edgar
Maintenance Groundsman

After 40 years as an electrician with ICI/Dupont, Alan joined Roucan Loch in 2007.  After being cooped up inside a factory Alan loves working outdoors and is always keen to develop new projects. 

Alan enjoys football and for many years he was goalkeeper for Threave Rovers and Nithsdale Amateurs.  He now enjoys playing golf or rustling up something in the kitchen for family or friends. 

Simon Hyslop
Organist

A native of Dumfries, Simon has been playing the organ since the age of 15 and studied music at Glasgow University.  He now lives close to Roucan Loch at Torthorwald with his wife and their small menagerie.  He has been the resident organist at St Michael's Church in Dumfries for the past 8 years, and has a wide ranging interests in music and finds this of benefit in meeting the many varied request of families.

David McCullough
Organist

Until his retirement in 2004, Dave - an honours graduate of Queens University, Belfast - taught English and was principle teacher of Guidance at Maxwelltown High School, Dumfries.  He has been organist of St George's Church, Dumfries since 1975, is MD of Dumfries Male Choir, accompanist for the National Youth Choir of Scotland (Dumfries) and Dumfries Music Festival, and plays piano in a local jazz band.

Matt Kerr
Groundsman

Matt was a 'weel kent' face with Hastings Taxis for some 25 years before working as a cortege driver for a local Funeral Directors.  Matt spent a number of years helping prepare the grounds surrounding Roucan Loch,- creating the beautiful landscape you see today.

Ruth Jardine
Crematorium Manager

Ruth was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne.  At the age of 18, she moved to London to study for a music degree at King's College, London and The Royal Academy of Music, studying flute and voice.  She was awarded a choral sponsorship and the Performers Certificate in Flute from Trinity College, London and performed regularly at venues in Britain and France.  In 1997 Ruth completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Durham University before moving to Dumfries & Galloway to begin a career in teaching.  Her career has been varied including working as an instrumental instructor, music specialist, transition teacher at Dumfries Academy, field teacher for the RSPB at Mersehead Reserve and as both a primary school and Head Teacher. 

Ruth took a sabbatical from education to study for the Professional Diploma in Funeral Celebrancy and to undertake the role of Marketing and Development Manager at Roucan Loch.  She has recently been appointed Crematorium Manager and is currently studying for a Diploma with the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management, in partnershiop with Stratford Business School.  Ruth delivers truly personal funeral ceremonies that capture the very essence of the loved one and celebrate a life that has been lived.  Her passion for the arts and literature is invaluable in helping to select the right readings, poignant poetry and reflective music, to create a ceremony that is unique and exactly as families wish it to be.  Ruth is highly thought of  as a funeral celebrant and her work was featured in the July 2013 issue of Dumfries & Galloway Life Magazine.  In 2014, when Roucan Loch was selected by Civil Ceremonies Ltd as the Scottish training venue for funeral celebrants, Ruth worked as a tutor training and assessing students.  As an accomplished flautist, Ruth is often asked to play at services and she regularly performs at charity concerts across Dumfries & Galloway.  Ruth lives in the rural village of Kirkbean with her husband Mark, who is the founder and Managing Director of Roucan Loch.  Her interests include mountain walking, wildlife, photography, walking and cycling and she sings with the Balliol Consort. 

Ian Latta
Chapel Attendant

Ian was a sheep farmer in Ayrshire, before moving to Moffat in 1989 where he ran his own funeral business for many years with the help of his wife Val.  Ian then worked for a local funeral directors firm in Dumfries before joining the team at Roucan Loch, where he is involved with the meeting of families.

Ian's interests include spending time with his family of five children and six grandchildren, supporting Glasgow Warriors Rugby, hillwalking and gardening.

Gordon Peacock
Technical Operator

After 30 years serving in Dumfries & Galloway Fire and Resuce Service, Gordon joined the staff at Roucan Loch in February 2011.  Gordon is married with three children and enjoys cycling and walking.

 Alan Bryden
Groundsman / Technical Operator

After almost 30 years serving in Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service, Alan joined the staff at Roucan Loch in June 2010.  Alan is married with one child and enjoys fishing, shooting and long walks with his dog. 

Alister Kerr
Groundsman / Technical Operator

Alister joined the staff at Roucan Loch in 2014, after having worked in the Grounds and Burial Department of Dumfries & Galloway Council for many years.  In his spare time he enjoys music, motorsports, watching football and spending time with his family.
